FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about the Secure Exam browser.

Is Secure Exam compatible with our exam system?

Yes — the browser works with any web-based exam system: TAO, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, Open edX, Chamilo, ILIAS, and others. Simply set the exam URL and, if needed, a URL whitelist.

Which operating systems are supported?

Windows 10/11 (x86 and x64), Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or newer, macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer, and Android 10 or newer.

How does the browser prevent cheating?

The browser blocks screen-recording, remote-access, and chat application processes, disables system keyboard shortcuts (Alt+Tab, Win key, etc.), restricts access to the configured URL whitelist only, and runs in a full-screen kiosk mode.

Can the browser be managed centrally?

Yes — with the Midi or Maxi plan, configuration can be delivered via a remote URL, the browser can update itself automatically, and activity logs can be collected centrally.

Is an internet connection required during the exam?

It depends on the exam system. The browser itself does not require an internet connection, but web-based exam platforms typically require access to their server.

How does the administrator close the browser at the end of the exam?

The browser can only be closed by entering the administrator password via a dedicated keyboard shortcut. This ensures that exam participants cannot end the session themselves.

Is there a free trial version?

Yes — you can download the DEMO version, which is valid for 14 days from first launch. The DEMO includes all core features and is available for Windows.
